Sustainable leather technology is becoming increasingly important in Bangladesh as global buyers demand environmentally responsible production processes. New technologies focused on reducing water usage, chemical waste, and pollution are being introduced in selected tanneries and export-oriented factories.

The use of cleaner tanning agents, effluent treatment improvements, and waste recycling systems is helping some manufacturers move closer to international environmental compliance standards. Experts say this shift is essential for securing certifications required by premium global brands.

However, the adoption of green technology remains uneven, with many facilities still struggling to upgrade due to financial and infrastructural constraints.

Industry leaders believe that expanding access to green financing and technical support could accelerate the transition toward sustainable leather production in Bangladesh.
