In recent industry interviews, senior leather exporters in Bangladesh emphasized that the sector is entering a new phase of transformation driven by global demand for diversified sourcing. Business leaders noted that footwear and value-added leather goods are expected to lead future export growth.
Exporters said Bangladesh’s biggest advantage remains its competitive labor cost and expanding production capacity. However, they also stressed that sustainability compliance, especially meeting international standards such as environmental certifications, is now a non-negotiable requirement for global buyers.
Several industry voices pointed out that while order volumes are increasing, access to premium markets is still limited due to infrastructure gaps and environmental challenges at key industrial zones.
Despite these hurdles, interviewees remain optimistic, saying targeted reforms could significantly boost Bangladesh’s position in the global leather value chain.
